Comprehensive Agriculture Masterclass is a four-weekend seminar program that will be periodically held ad infinitum.The whole program shall be held on four consecutive weekends starting with the first on the list above, and progressing through the list.

Livestock Production Masterclass Syllabus

Introduction to livestock farming. Overview of the role of livestock in agriculture, economy, and food security.

Classification of livestock and their uses. Beef cattle, Dairy cattle, Poultry, Sheep, Goats, Piggery, Rabbits, Aquaculture and Fishery, Snailery, Cane rats, Bee-keeping.

Considerations for selecting livestock species based on climate, production goals, market demand, and suitability to the environment.

Discussion on specifically selecting livestock for your enterprise. Beef Cattle, Dairy Cattle, Poultry, Sheep, Goats, Pigs, Rabbits, Fishery, Snails, Cane rats. (Bees, honey, and beeswax production).

Livestock management systems in animal husbandry. Discussion will consider extensive livestock management, semi-intensive livestock management, intensive livestock management, specialized livestock management, smallholder and backyard systems, rotational grazing systems, zero-grazing systems, sustainable and alternative systems, aquaculture and integrated systems, and intensive pasture systems.

Livestock management: overview of animal care, feeding, breeding, and health management practices.

Animal behavior and handling. Basics of livestock behavior and stress management.

Safe handling practices. Techniques for safely handling and managing livestock to ensure safety for both animals and the handlers.

Nutrition and feed management for livestock. Understanding the dietary needs of different livestock species and life stages.

Feed types and formulation. Types of feed namely forage, concentrates, supplements. Principles of balanced diet formulation.

Animal health management and disease prevention. Strategies for preventing common livestock diseases including vaccination and biosecurity measures.

Disease diagnosis and treatment. Identification of symptoms and appropriate treatment protocols for common livestock illnesses and diseases.

Housing infrastructure and animal welfare practices. Importance of proper housing and infrastructure for livestock welfare and productivity.

Animal housing systems. Design and management of housing facilities to ensure comfort, health, and productivity. Best practices for ensuring animal welfare, including space requirements, ventilation, and bedding.

Breeding and Reproduction Techniques. Methods of breeding namely natural, or artificial insemination and genetic improvement strategies.

Reproduction and calving/kidding/farrowing/incubation and hatching/fish hatchery management. Reproductive physiology. Understanding the reproductive cycles and behaviours of different livestock species.

Parturition management. Best practices for managing birthing processes and neonatal care.

Pasture and grazing management. Pasture establishment and maintenance techniques for establishing and maintaining productive pastures.

Grazing systems. Different grazing methods viz rotational, continuous, strip grazing and their benefits.

Sustainable livestock practices. Managing livestock production to minimize environmental impacts. Including waste management and pasture conservation. Principles and benefits of organic and free range livestock production.

Importance of record-keeping and farm management. Keeping accurate records for health, production, and financial management.

Marketing livestock products. Strategies for marketing livestock products, including meat, milk, eggs, manure, feathers, hides, skins, bones, blood, etc.

Successful livestock production models. Examples of successful livestock management practices and production systems from different places.

Feedback collection for improvement of future seminars.

The venue of the program is AIH Corporate Headquarters at Old Bodija, Ibadan. The standard well-equipped seminar room will be comfortable with electricity fully assured.

Registration Fees

  1. a) To attend the 5 masterclasses: N220,000 or  (600 USD forex registration)
  2. b) To attend any 4 masterclasses: N180,000 or  (500 USD forex registration)
  3. c) To attend any 3 masterclasses: N150,000 or  (400 USD forex registration)
  4. d) To attend any 2 masterclasses: N100,000 or  (250 USD forex registration)
  5. e) To attend any 1 masterclass: N60,000 or (150 USD forex registration)

Each masterclass will run for the whole day from 9.00 am to 6.00pm. An hour lunch break will be included and provided. Tea break, refreshments, and farm-fresh fruits will also be provided. Abundant highest-quality bottled water will be provided for participants throughout the day. All these are included in the fees paid by each registered participant.

For participants coming from outside Ibadan, comfortable hotel accommodation can be arranged on their behalf in Bodija area in close proximity to the seminar location. This will however be at a discounted extra cost arranged with the hotel, courtesy of the seminar organizers.

Qualification

Certificates will be issued to all the participants at the completion of the seminars. Each certificate will include the name of the participant as well as the name and details of the masterclass attended.

Resource team

The seminar pattern will include lectures from world class academics and professionals, power point presentations, case studies, video clips, testimonies from practicing farmers, policy makers and government officials. There will also be focused group discussions with agricultural experts to thrash current agricultural problems and evolve possible solutions. Masterclass Participants will be encouraged to participate in this.

Practical experience

Masterclass Participants will have opportunity for one on one interactions with some of the biggest crop and livestock farmers in Nigeria.

Lecture Materials

 At the end of the masterclass, participants will be given soft copies of the lectures of the masterclass which they registered for.

Masterclass materials

Masterclass Participants will also be given branded seminar notebooks, biros, pencils, erasers, rulers, for notetaking. Individual in-class photographs will unobtrusively be taken.

Free consultation

Masterclass Participants who pay for the whole Comprehensive Agricultural Masterclass will also have opportunity for a free one-hour, one on one consulting service at the very end of the masterclass before departing the seminar venue.

Consultancy services

Should any Masterclass Participant require any further consulting services which may include Business Plan formulation, Business Registration, Starting and Running a Business, Securing Farm Land, and so forth, we can provide these services too for whosoever so desires. However, these further consulting engagements will be paid for by the client at discounted market rates.
